The 13 Colonies were British colonies established in North America between 1607 and 1733. They were located along the Atlantic coast and included Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and New Hampshire.
The colonies were founded by different groups of people, including Puritans, Quakers, Catholics, and others seeking economic opportunities. They established diverse economies, with some colonies relying on agriculture and others on commerce and trade.
The colonies played a significant role in the American Revolution, as they were the center of resistance to British rule. The colonists formed a Continental Congress in 1774, which ultimately led to the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
By the time of the American Revolution, the population of the 13 Colonies was estimated at around 2.5 million people. After the war, the colonies became states in the newly formed United States of America.
